ESR13: Affinity-based methods for high-throughput determination of glycosylation

Location: Institute of Chemistry, Slovakian Academy of Sciences (ICSAS), Bratislava, SK

Supervisor: Dr Jaroslav Katrlík

The research will involve development of biochips- and biosensors-based assays for screening of glycosylation status and its changes on proteins and cell surfaces using natural and engineered glycan recognizing elements, mainly lectins. The platform for high-throughput analysis will be protein microarray. The interactions will be analyzed also by surface plasmon resonance and by novel label-free real-time microfluidics-based platform in microarray format, single colour reflectometry. Other techniques such as immunoassays and mass spectrometry for glycans identification will be employed as well. The developed biochips will be used for detection of glyco-biomarkers of cancer and other diseases, and for other applications related to protein glycoprofiling in medicine, biology and biotechnology.

Applicants should meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Have a Diploma and/or a Master Degree in Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Analytical Chemistry or other related field relevant to the described research.
  • Have less than 4 years research experience at the signature of the contract (measured from the time the Master’s degree has been obtained).
  • Not have a PhD already.
  • Not have resided or carried out main activity in Slovakia for more than 12 months in the last 3 years immediately prior to the reference recruitment date.
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language (spoken and written / proficiency level)

The ESR will be contractually employed by the Institute of Chemistry, Slovak Academy of Sciences and will receive a Monthly Living Allowance plus a Mobility Allowance compliant with the applicable EC Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions-ITN general conditions.
